Talmage Smedley was born and raised in Layton, Utah. He has always loved owning, training, and breeding animals and as a boy owned about every animal you could legally have inside Layton’s city limits! At 13 he bought his first English setter and while he’s trained many breeds of dogs, the setters have always been his true love. He has bred, owned, or trained many national field trial champions, including the 2008 national derby dog of the year.
At 18 he began riding horses and after serving an LDS mission, that became his career choice. He began training reining horses professionally in 1995 and currently runs his training and breeding business in Ogden, Utah. He has had great success in both his training and breeding programs. He has won multiple local and national titles, including Utah Futurity Champion, Utah Derby Champion, and the 2009 National Open Derby Level 1 Champion. Horses from his breeding and training programs have gone on under other riders to win many titles as well.
Talmage currently lives in Plain City with his wife, Jelaire, and 4 children. He has two boys: 12 and 10, and two girls: 6 and 2. He also spends a lot of time coaching his boys in almost every sport known to man! He is a coach and developer at heart; wanting to see every person and animal achieve all that they possibly can.
